Interactive Video (ITV) Classroom
The 18’ x 33’ interactive video classroom is large enough to allow classes of up to twenty people. Furnished with comfortable chairs and seminar tables, people may participate actively and simultaneously using the two-way interactive distance learning video system. It is equipped with a Polycom unit with audio and microphone systems, which take the digital compressed video signal from the University of Missouri MoreNet backbone and Video Network that operates among the four campuses and other locations, decodes it and displays it locally. The Polycom unit has a built in camera and an audio/video signal transmitter. The system allows a remote user/instructor to see and hear him/herself on screen while seeing and hearing students at the Salem site. This unit is also equipped with a state-of-the-art document camera for students to share visual information with the instructor. A projector and projector screen are available in the room. The projection system allows presenters to utilize computer-generated presentations and the audience to see clear and sharp images directly from a computer presentation. Additional television monitors allow for easy viewing.
A networked computer and printer are available for use in the room to interact with instructors from transmitting campuses as well as for independent student use. This interaction may include the transmittal of curriculum materials, visuals, examinations and e-mail with the instructor or students at other participating classroom sites. Direct access to the networked computer allows students at the remote site to participate in group projects with students at a host site or other remote sites. The room is also equipped with a phone, fax, and auxiliary camera allowing the Salem TCRC to be a broadcast site.
